Lock in a Low Power Rate now While Rates are Low – The electric service providers also periodically offer special deals and opportunities to their customers whereby they can lock in a low rate for an extended period of time – in some cases, up to three years. This can be a very prudent step to take. Texas electric rates are lower right now than they were a decade ago, even prior to deregulation. However, these low rates will not last forever, given the predicted rate hikes (due to fewer power plants being constructed despite population increase and with that, an increased demand for electricity). So we are encouraging people to “lock in the low rate” option to avoid future rate increases.
